The 13 most refreshing alcoholic drinks of the summer

22 mayo, 2021

We don’t know about you, but around here we have lost count of the heat waves that we have had since the summer began, which has not been released for a month. We still have a few weeks like this, so we are going to do our best to beat the heat and we think of dealing with it with the 13 most refreshing alcoholic drinks of the summer.

Any time of the day, if we are on vacation, it is good to prepare one of these 13 alcoholic drinks and refresh the body. Although if we continue working it will be almost better if we leave them for when we get home, they will also help us to disconnect from the work day and end the day with a touch of party.

1. Cuban mojito

Mojito Cubano
  • Ingredients: white rum, siphon (or sparkling water), white sugar, mint, lime and ice.

  • Elaboration. Add about two teaspoons of sugar to a tall, slightly wide glass. On the sugar we add half a chopped lime and squeeze with the help of the mortar. We add a blow of the siphon, more or less double the amount that we are going to put rum (you can see clearly in the video). Next we add the peppermint, which we crush, but without chopping it, simply to release its aroma. Then we add the white rum and, finally, the ice. We stir, we place the corresponding straw, we decorate with a sprig of mint and that’s it.

2. Mint Julep

  • Ingredients: 120 ml of Bourbon, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 60 ml of sparkling mineral water, 8 mint leaves, a sprig of mint, ice.

  • Elaboration: The cocktail is prepared directly in the glass, which should preferably be a short “old fashion” type glass. Place the mint leaves, sugar and sparkling mineral water in the glass and crush well with a mortar. We add a lot of ice and finish by pouring in the bourbon. We stir so that the aromas are integrated and serve.

3. Valencia water

Valencia water
  • Ingredients: natural orange juice, gin, vodka and cava or champagne.

  • Elaboration. We start by filling 33% of a jug with fresh orange juice, adding 16% gin and another 16% vodka. Finally, we add 33% cava or champagne, stir gently and transfer to the fridge where we let it cool for an hour before serving.

  • Ingredients: 1 l of red wine, 2 peaches, 2 oranges, 1 lemon, 2 bananas, 1 apple, 60 g of sugar, 1 cinnamon stick and 330 ml of orange soda.

  • Elaboration: We begin by dissolving the sugar in 75 ml of hot water to form a syrup and what will facilitate its dissolution in the wine. In a large container or a large bowl, put the wine and syrup and add the juice of an orange, stirring to mix well. Peel, chop the fruits and add them to the bowl with the wine. Add the juice of a lemon and the cinnamon stick. We let it rest between two and three hours for its maceration. After this time we pour into a jug and serve accompanied by ice cubes.

  • Elaboration: We wash the grapes and place them in a bowl. We add the peach in pieces, the Cointreau and the cider. We stir and let it rest for about 30 minutes in the refrigerator. We add the tequilla, the liquid cane sugar and a lot of ice. Stir and serve, preferably with more frappe ice.

6. Brazilian caipirinha

  • Ingredients: 20 cl of Cachaça, a lime, two tablespoons of sugar and a lot of crushed ice.

  • Elaboration: We wash the lime and cut it in half. We chop one of those halves into small pieces that we place in an “old-fashionned” glass or short glass. Add the sugar and crush with a mortar to release its juice and mix with the sugar. Add crushed ice to fill three quarters of the glass. We finish with the cachaça and stir with a mixer. We serve immediately.

8. Pineapple margarita

pineapple margarita cocktail
  • Ingredients: 20 cl of Añejo Tequila, 5 cl of Cointreau, 10 cl of pineapple juice, 3 tablespoons of chopped pineapple in syrup, 1 lemon and lots of ice.

  • Elaboration: Place the pineapple chunks in a jug together with the lemon juice and the Cointreau. Let it rest for about 15 minutes and add the pineapple juice. We beat so that these ingredients are well integrated. We add the tequila and mix everything well again. We pour ice into the glass of a blender and pour all the previous preparation. Press at high speed for a minute, until the ice and the pineapple have been crushed and we obtain a light foam. We serve in cocktail glasses and decorate with a lemon wedge or a piece of pineapple.

9. Pina colada

Pina Colada
  • Ingredients: 1 part white rum, 3 parts pineapple juice, 1 part coconut milk or cream (not coconut water) and crushed ice.

  • Elaboration: In a shaker with crushed ice we place all the ingredients, trying to add the coconut milk towards the end, since if we have opted for the coconut cream it is thick like condensed milk. Some use coconut milk (more liquid) and add a part of condensed milk. With all the ingredients in the shaker, shake a little to homogenize the cocktail and serve in a long glass or a hurricane-type glass, decorating with two black straws and a piece of pineapple, although you can also place a cherry. If you want the slush version, we can put the whole through the blender.

10. Strawberry margarita

strawberry margarita cocktail
  • Ingredients: 10 strawberries, 5 ice cubes, 60 ml of Añejo Tequila, 30 ml of Cointreau (or another orange liqueur), 30 ml of liquid cane sugar, 1 tablespoon of salt and half a lemon.

  • Elaboration: We freeze the clean strawberries for an hour. After time we place them in a blender with the ice and cane sugar and blend for a minute. Add the tequila and Cointreau and blend again until a thick consistency is obtained. Next we make the frosting of the glass or glass in which we will serve the margarita. To do this we pour the salt on a plate. We pass the lemon around the edge of the glass or glass. We pass the lemon soaked edge through the salt, turning it over. Pour the margarita into the glass or glass and decorate with a whole strawberry and a slice of lime or lemon

11. Peppermint Rebujito

1366 2000 11
  • Ingredients: 50-75 ml of white wine type Fino, Manzanilla, Montilla Moriles or similar, 500 ml of lime or soft drink, 4 sprigs of mint and plenty of ice.

  • Elaboration: Blanch the peppermint for a few seconds to remove any impurities that it may have and so that its flavor does not cover excessively that of the rest of the ingredients. We pour the white wine into a jug and add the chosen soda. Add the mint leaves (discard the stems) and fill with plenty of ice.

12. Mandarin blast

1366 2000 10
  • Ingredients: 20 cl of mezcal, a mandarin orange, 35 cl of hot water, a cinnamon stick, two tablespoons of liquid cane sugar and lots of ice.

  • Elaboration: We peel the mandarin and put the peel to infuse in hot water for 30 minutes. After this time we add the cinnamon stick and the cane sugar. We stir and let it infuse for another 30 minutes. At the end of that first hour, we remove the tangerine peels from the infusion and pass it through the strainer if necessary to remove any pieces of the tangerine skin that may have come off. We add the mezcal and mix very well again.

13. Tequila sunrise

tequila Sunrise
  • Ingredients: 3 parts of tequila, 6 parts of orange juice and 1 part of grenadine.

  • Elaboration: We fill a tall glass with ice, preferably chopped or in small pieces. We add the vodka, the orange juice (better if it is natural) and, finally, we pour the grenadine, letting it go to the bottom slowly. If we see that it settles too much, we can stir very gently before serving, but be very careful not to overdo it so that the drink does not turn a coral color. We decorate to taste and serve.
