Let’s face it, almost everyone loves chocolate. But, as in everything, there are different types and this one can vary according to your personality.

Answer this test and find out which one you identify with the most.

The benefits of chocolate

In addition to being a delight, eating chocolate at least once a week helps reduce the risk of heart disease or, at least, this was shown by a team of researchers from Baylor College of Medicine, in the United States, in a study published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology.

“In the past, clinical studies have shown that chocolate is beneficial for both blood pressure and the lining of blood vessels. For this reason, we wanted to know if it affects the blood vessels that supply the heart (the coronary arteries) or not ”, the experts have argued.

To do this, they conducted a combined analysis of studies from the last five decades examining the association between chocolate consumption and coronary artery disease (blockage of the coronary arteries).

The analysis included six studies with a total of 336,289 participants reporting their chocolate consumption.

The study

During a median follow-up of nearly nine years, 14,043 participants developed coronary artery disease and 4,667 suffered a heart attack.

Compared with consuming chocolate less than once a week, eating chocolate more than once a week was associated with an 8 percent decrease in risk of coronary heart disease.

The fabulous conclusion

“Chocolate contains healthy nutrients for the heart such as flavonoids, methylxanthines, polyphenols and stearic acid that can reduce inflammation and increase good cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein or HDL cholesterol),” explained the experts, who have acknowledged that they have not studied if a particular type of chocolate is more beneficial and if there is an ideal serving size.
