Fish nuggets recipe for weekend snacks

Surely, you have already prepared some chicken nuggets. Well, this same recipe can also be made with hake and the result is very grateful. That’s why today I want to show you my fish nuggets recipe for dinner, a good alternative to hake delicacies for children, which will undoubtedly come in handy to add to your recipe book either at weekend snack time or for dinner any day.

Made with skinless hake fillets, I usually prepare these Nuggets when I buy a whole hake and cut it myself, as I taught you here. I separate the neck for roasting and the round slices from the wide part of the tail to make hake a la romana and with the trimmings and the rest of the fish I make this recipe.

I also take advantage of the slices that come out open and the end of the tail, when I am not going to roast it in the oven. With all that fish I prepare these nuggets, which sometimes cold at the moment and other times I keep frozen for when I want to use them.

A) Yes I always have fish nuggets in the freezer to take out at the aperitif time, to solve the food when my nieces come or when I feel like a dinner without complications. It is enough to let them defrost for about half an hour and then fry them over low heat and they are the same as freshly made.

In a bowl, we prepare the mixture of ingredients to make the fish nuggets. Crumble the hake and add the breadcrumbs soaked in milk and the cream cheese. Then we work it with our hands, with a fork or with a food processor, in the same way as when we prepare meatballs, until we obtain a homogeneous mixture.

Once the mixture is prepared, we form the nuggets, giving the shape and size we prefer. I do a kind of meatball that I later crush leaving a portion similar to a flat croquette, more or less oval in shape. I pass that portion of the fish mass through the beaten egg and then through the breadcrumbs, leaving the nuggets in a bowl until frying.

To fry them, I prepare a wide frying pan with extra virgin olive oil and when it is very hot, fry the fish nuggets for two minutes on each side until golden brown. Those that I am not going to eat at the moment, I can keep them frozen to fry later.

With what to accompany the fish nuggets

To enjoy this bite, nothing fits better with the fish nuggets Than a salad of green leaves, -canons, lettuce, arugula, spinach, etc.- dressed to taste to make a contrast of texture, temperature and flavor.

Alternating each piece of fish fry with a little salad, the result will be a delicious dinner. For those who prefer it, I also put a lemon wedge and I serve the fish nuggets with a few teaspoons with ketchup and homemade aioli sauce.
