The holiday season is approaching and whether you are staying home or going out, you need to learn how to prepare the best drinks to beat the heat.

Hydration is essential to be healthy, but especially in times when the temperature rises. Naturally your body releases fluids through sweat, this is an automatic response to help cool down and thus avoid heat stroke, however sometimes that is not enough and that is why it is vital that you help it cool down by consuming drinks to combat the heat .

What is a heat stroke?

Basically it is a condition caused by excess heat in the body, it usually appears after exposing yourself for a long time or even making great physical effort to high temperatures. What happens is that the body is not able to cool itself and reaches an internal temperature of up to 40ºC or more and if it is not taken care of immediately it can cause serious consequences in the health of the person who suffers it.

As a consequence, it can present different symptoms ranging from weakness, confusion, shortness of breath, dizziness, headache, muscle cramps, to fainting and seizures. Although the number of symptoms, as well as the intensity with which they occur may vary depending on the person.

Tips to beat the heat in summer

  • Wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing made of breathable fabrics.
  • Use sunscreen and apply it continuously, at least every 4 hours.
  • Avoid exposing yourself to the sun directly or exercising, especially between 12 noon and 4 pm.
  • Avoid being in a car parked in the sun
  • Wear hats, caps and sunglasses.
  • Reduce or eliminate the consumption of caffeinated beverages.
  • Drink beverages to beat the heat, hydrate with fluids every 15 to 20 minutes, even when you’re not thirsty.
  • Eat fresh fruits and vegetables in season, especially those with more water.
